AmeriCorps VISTA - Community Outreach Coordinator - MO/KS
The Community Outreach Coordinator will build the capacity of Poetry for Personal Power (P3) through developing and implementing community outreach strategies that engage community members, local partners, and regional organizations whose work aligns with and actualizes the P3 mission statement. The Community Outreach Coordinator should operate with the “big picture” in mind; How do communities overcome challenges and barriers? How do we increase access to resources that encourage healthier living, homeownership, more connections to city services and local organizations?
B. Essential Functions and Accountabilities:

Become familiar with Poetry for Personal Power’s history, programs, goals, outreach methods, partnerships, and resources.

Identify strengths and weaknesses of P3’s data collection/management systems and make a plan in collaboration with the Executive Assistant to improve these systems.

Set up outreach systems with the Executive Assistant and develop partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, religious institutions, and more to increase the knowledge of services provided and services needed in the neighborhood.

Create monthly reports regarding your findings and suggestions. These reports will be presented to Administration.

Use various software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
Compensation:

Hours per day: 10-5pm M-F flex time. Some Weekends and Evenings will be required dependent on events.

Position may require up to 5% travel within the region. All travel is unreimbursed except for trips that are negotiated ahead of time. We encourage the use of a mileage tracking application to get full tax deductions for mileage.

Employees can still submit sponsored artist event payment requests as independent contractor 1099 status. But regional coordinators should emphasize training other artists instead of taking too many of the funded gigs.
Qualifications/skills and knowledge required:

High School diploma, college degree preferred.

Proven experience as a outreach coordinator or other relevant work history.

In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office Suite tools.

Ability to organize a daily workload by priorities.

Must be able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment.

A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.

Professional level verbal and written communications skills.

Certified Peer Specialist, Peer Recovery Coaching, WRAP training or Healing Voices Network facilitator training preferred.

Willingness to self-disclose lived experience of recovery from adversity using medical or community supports.

Skilled at social media, internet research, word processing, and spreadsheet design.
-
Excellent skills for team building, camaraderie, fairness, conflict resolution, relationship building.
